Tenth Phase: Ponte Ferreira to Melide 23,52 KM

Wednesday, June 4th, 2014

We woke up like any other day at 5h00, but this time we had breakfast at the Albergue. They left everything prepared the night before, and the coffee was still warm and it was very good.  We were the first ones to go like always and I hope we didn't do too much noise.

The way was very beautiful and my mom had the chance to see the windmills.  On the way to ponteferreira we told her we would pass those the next day and she saw them so far away that she thought we were kidding, but we were not.

The summit of the day was breathtaking, and the weather was so nice we could not believe it, being outside early gave us the chance to see the sunrise and enjoy the peaceful start of the day.

We made our first stop in As Seixas where we found a very nice Albergue, so if you need to make a stop there, don't hesitate.

All in all the way was beautiful and easy, nothing compared to the hardcore primitivo begining so we got to enjoy a lot.

Near Melide we realized that the Hotel we booked stated with big letters in the advertising that they were in Melide directly on the Camino.  But they were first, 7 km before Melide and second they were on the French Camino.  So for us it would have meant to walk 7 km on the opposite direction from Santiago, and walk them again the next day. After the first shock, we took the decision to look for the hospital to take care of Emilia's tick, and then take a taxi to the hotel.  Cancelling was not an option because of the bagagge service that already delivered our things there.

I was having some pain in the ear that was not letting me fully enjoy, so when we reached to hospital Emilia got rid of the head of the tick (with more than its fare share of screaming) and I got my ear checked. They told us that for such a small tick it is more important to kill it than to take care about the head, anyway they took it out. About my ear... I had an infection and needed antibiotics and all... well resting was not an option so antibiotics it was.
